A presidential candidate, Daud Merakai stepped out of the race, media reports said. Merakai said he prefers not to run in the August race as some elements undermine the transparency of the polls.
He blamed the international community for interfering in the Afghan presidential elections and according to him, the foreigners are playing their own game. He prefers to step out of the game as he termed such a situation ‘a significant challenge’ for the racers.
“The second reason is that President Karzai misuses the government facilities for his campaign and it obviously undermines the transparency of the elections,” Merakai told Quqnoos.
Now with Merakai withdrawal, still 43 other candidates are enthusiastically running for the crucial Afghan elections, scheduled for 20th August, 2009. |
