Solidarités is a non profit organisation, working in the field of water and sanitation, food security, and implementing programmes toward the most vulnerable people in Afghanistan for the past 29 years. This Vacancy Announcement is in the framework of LRRD (Linking Relief Rehabilitation and Development) project led in the outskirt of Saighan. The objective of this project is to protect and strengthen livelihoods in order to increase people capacity to deal with shocks in a sustainable way in the Saighan District, Bamyan Province, Afghanistan. That will rely on four main types of activities: work on wheat cultivation and vegetable production (open field and greenhouses), work on animal husbandry, flock management and fodder cropping, work on pasture management, and work on the exploitation of underground water for irrigation. This intervention is predicted to last 3 years.



Duties & Responsibilities:
1.Hierarchy

The zoo technician will work under the direct supervision of the animal husbandry engineer, and under the supervision of the expatriate project manager. He is part of the operational team of Saighan base.

2.Major Objectives of the Position

The Zoo technician is in charge of the implementation of the flock management and fodder cropping activities, such as the trainings of 250 PRFs animal breeders on flock management and fodder cropping, the implementation of fodder demonstration plots and the improvement of 25 demonstration barns.

3.Specific Tasks

The technician should collaborate with zoo engineers for implementation of related activities.

3.1Implementation
-to follow schedule of implementation for each activity,
-to check if CDCs respect Solidarités criteria for beneficiaries selection (PRF + demonstration fodder plots + barns),
-to set up training session animal breeders according to engineers advices,
-to conduct trainings for distribution’s beneficiaries,
-to respect local culture and behaviours.


3.2Follow-up and reporting
-to monitor if beneficiaries follow technical advices from training,
-to organise files with all documents (beneficiaries list, distribution list, contracts,…) concerning each activity; this files should be available at any time for the program manager,
-to provide weekly report on activity progress to engineers,
-to inform the engineers about any problem faced during implementation of activities,
-to transfer to engineers women suggestion and request,
-to conduct impact survey at the end of project.
Qualifications Knowledge in animal husbandry (fodder cultivation, flock management…)
Knowledge in computer software (Excel and word) is a plus.
Good oral and representation skills
Autonomy and self organisation of the work to be done. Good work organisation competencies
Diplomacy, courtesy, communication skills
Knowledge of NGO intervention in rural areas.
English/Dari speaking writing
