USAID's Afghanistan Small and Medium Enterprise Development (ASMED) project increases opportunities for trade, employment, and investment by improving private sector productivity. Through ASMED, USAID provides a wide range of business development services to encourage the establishment and growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which serve as a major driver of Afghanistan’s economic development. The project builds the capacity of business associations to provide valuable member services and to serve as the voice of their members, advocating for policy reforms that support private sector development. USAID also facilitates public-private partnerships and supports practical business training for Afghanistan’s private sector leaders of tomorrow. Finally, ASMED facilitates internal and external market linkages for Afghan SMEs, improving product value chains in key sectors such as carpets, marble, wool and cashmere, dried fruits and nuts, food processing, gemstones, and handicrafts.

BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICIATION:
The Internship Coordinator will be responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight of the ASMED internship program. The Internship Coordinator will further be responsible for monitoring the quality of business instruction given to participants by ASMED's academic partners, to facilitate the timely placement of the interns in meaningful positions, identifying host companies and design and implement an intern monitoring and evaluation program to ensure that interns are being utilized in capacity maximizing ways.

Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Work with academic partners to deliver highest quality business instruction possible
2. Identify host companies interested in offering professional internships
3. Design and implement intern placement mechanism
4. Collection of the intern’s evaluation forms from the host companies on monthly basis
5. Collection of the evaluation form from the interns on monthly basis
6. To make sure that the payment is made to the interns on monthly basis
7. Maintain the record of all payment related to the internship program
8. To make sure that the interns are registered in TAMIS
9. Report weekly, monthly and quarterly to the Professional Skills Development Specialist
10. Design and implement follow-up surveys to evaluate program impact post-internship
11. Coordinate the placement, monitoring and evaluation of the interns with regions
12. Any other responsibilities and task may be assigned by professional skills development specialist.
Qualifications 1. University graduate
2. Experience with (perhaps having been one) an intern program at some level.
3. Understanding of the University environment.
4. Working relationships with management and senior staff of some educational institutions.
5. Highly organized and able to work independently.
6. Willingness to travel extensively.
7. Capacity to work with business community, NGOs, associations and other projects.
8. Excellent English language skills, both written and oral.
9. Ability to develop a rapport with students and recent graduates.
10. Marketing and sales skills to "sell" program to potential employers of interns.
11. Creative program design skills.
12. Public speaking skills.
