Job Description Nationality: Afghan

The NTP of Afghanistan is a technical department of the MoPH staffed by qualified and motivated health professionals who lead and carry out TB prevention, detection, diagnostics and the treatment of TB patients in order to reduce the impact of TB as a public health problem in the country.

The major objectives of the program are to reduce the risk of infection, morbidity and mortality due to tuberculosis by
Having 100% DOTS population coverage
Increasing the cure rate of diagnosed new sputum smear-positive pulmonary cases to 85%, and increasing the case detection rate to over 70% of the estimated smear-positive cases.

Donor support for TB control in Afghanistan is increasing, especially via GFATM, USAID, WB, EC, Italian Cooperation, JICA CIDA, and SIDA. Cooperation and Coordination between main stakeholders and MoPH technical departments has improved. NTP technically supported by WHO, JICA, MoPH and other implementing partners although the NTP is a vertical program at central and provincial levels, DOTS implementation is integrated within the BPHS/ EPHS system from the provincial to local health facility level.

Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Coordination of NTP activities at the provincial level.

2. Responsible for the establishment and maintaining of recording and reporting system using standardized registers, reports and forms.

3. Planning and conducting training programs covering all NTP aspects.

4. Establishment and maintaining of a province wide network of microscopy services in close contact with PHC system, with adequate facilities of directly observed treatment short course chemotherapy.

5. Guarantee regular supply of drugs, documents and diagnostic materials.

6. Timely distribution of TB drugs and commodities to health facilities and report on timely replenishment of items in shortage.

7. Drafting developing plans, with budget details, mobilizing funds and sources.

8. Regular visits in aim of Supervision, monitoring and evaluation of TB control program activities throughout the province.

9. Responsible for the coordination of NTP at the provincial and regional level with other departments of Ministry of Public Health as well as national/ International organizations and NGOs.

10. Planning, organizing and conducting health education events about TB (prevention, diagnosis, and treatment).

11. Responsible for estimating the need of IEC material and its distribution throughout the province Health facilities.

12. Responsible for supervision of research projects proposed by NTP throughout the province in regard to improve the quality of TB program and DOTS

13. Responsible for planning, adapting, coordinating of model DOTS in Faiz Abad city.

14. Responsible for planning, adapting, coordinating, supervision and monitoring of PPM (Private Public Mix or Public Public Mix) program of TB at the provincial level.

15. Responsible for planning, adapting, coordinating, supervision and monitoring of TB/ HIV collaborative activities at provincial level.

16. Responsible for planning food commodities distribution for the TB patients, supervision, controlling and monitoring of food distribution and also preparing the records and reports for TB program and WFP ( World Food Program)
Qualifications 1. Graduate from a Medical Faculty.

2. Having practical experience in public health issues in government or NGOs.

3. Ability to work as part of a team and as an individual.

4. Excellent oral and writing skills in English.

5. At least 3 years of relevant working experience in TB detection, treatment, TB program management or public health programs.

6. Report writing skills.

7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

8. Good communication and interpersonal skills
